Paramedic Refresher Course Description:
The curriculum guidelines will be the objectives of the 2001 US DOT EMT-Paramedic Refresher Course. The program will consist of a Monday-Thursday lecture-style component, followed by three OPTIONAL days where participants may take ACLS, PALS, and ITLS refresher courses.
Completion of the lecture component will meet all NREMT-P mandatory and flexible core content areas with the exception of 8 hours in airway, breathing, cardiology and 8 hours in OB/Peds. If participants elect to take the optional ACLS and PALS refresher modules then ALL hours will be met for the required 48 hour paramedic refresher course. If participants elect to take the ITLS refresher module then those hours may be applied toward the additional 24 hours that are mandated by the NREMT. Completion of the entire program will result in participants departing with 56 hours of CE and renewed ACLS, PALS, and ITLS provider cards.
Paramedic Refresher Course Length
32 hours (Jul 19 -Jul 22 MON-THU, 8a-5p each day) – Lecture/Lab component
8 hours (July 23 FRI, 8a-5p) for ACLS refresher
8 hours (July 24 SAT, 8a-5p) for PALS refresher
8 hours (July 25 SUN, 8a-5p) for ITLS refresher
Additional CE Modules
We have decided to offer additional stand-alone CE modules at night based on feedback from previous paramedic refresher courses. Many participants have told us they would like to be able to gain more CE hours since they were typically out of town and staying in a hotel. Specific information regarding these courses will be posted at a later date; however, all hours will be valid and can be used in a variety of areas toward recertification. It is anticipated that many participants will use these hours toward meeting the 24 additional hours of EMS related CE that NREMT requires for paramedic renewal.
We will offer at least 2 courses lasting from 2-3 hours each. These courses will likely start at 7PM in order for folks to have time to eat after ending the day at 5PM. Additional information will be posted on this page when details are finalized. We will email participants that have registered to notify them of the offerings as well.
Instructors
Paramedic refresher course instructors will be content area experts and will consist of EMT-Ps, RNs, PAs, and MDs.
Target Audience
This course is intended for NREMT-Paramedic certified providers who are preparing for NREMT-P recertification and need CE topics/hours to meet refresher requirements. It is also appropriate for individuals who simply need EMT-P level CE for any reason. NC participants should ensure that their EMS System will accept CE from an outside entity.
NORTH CAROLINA PERSONNEL ONLY: If your NC EMT-P credential has EXPIRED you will need to find a refresher program that includes the NCOEMS mandated Technical Scope of Practice Evaluation (TSOPE). This program does not include a TSOPE practical component, and thus cannot be used to renew an EXPIRED credential.
Accreditation
This continuing education activity is approved by Southeastern Emergency Equipment, an organization accredited by the Continuing Education Coordinating Board for Emergency Medical Services (CECBEMS). The NREMT accepts, and advocates, CECBEMS approved continuing education. Not every state accepts CECBEMS approval - please check with your respective state if you have questions. In addition, this course is approved by and will be coordinated through the Franklin County EMS Advanced Education Institution (AEI) in Louisburg, NC. The Franklin County AEI is approved by the NC Office of EMS and is authorized to provide any level of initial or refresher EMS course.
All AHA components will be coordinated through the Southeastern Emergency Equipment CTC and will follow AHA guidelines. The ACLS, PALS, and ITLS courses require successful completion of a written and practical component.
Location for Paramedic Refresher Course
The refresher program, and all modules, will be held at the Southeastern Emergency Equipment Emergency Medicine Training & Education Center located at 5760 HWY 96 West in Youngsville, NC.

Travel/Lodging
Course participants have two options for area lodging.
A rate of $84.99/night has been secured at the Holiday Inn Express Hotel and Suites – North Raleigh/Wakefield and a rate of $64.99/night has been secured at the Sleep Inn - Wake Forest. There are a variety of shops and restaurants in close proximity to both hotels, and we frequently book guests and employees at both hotels. Participants should contact the hotel directly at the numbers below and mention the Paramedic Refresher Course at Southeastern Emergency Equipment when registering.
