IPMBA fire/EMS Cyclist Course

Course Description:
This course was designed by the IPMBA Education Committee, in cooperation with EMT's and Paramedics on bikes from across the country. It equips the EMT or Paramedic for the rapidly expanding area of bicycle operations. Students will learn:
  • basic and emergency bike handling skills
  • riding single and in pairs in diverse traffic situations
  • ways to effectively and safely pack equipment
  • techniques designed to safely handle EMS scenes
  • personal safety techniques

Course Length
32 hours (4 days, 8-5 each day)

Required Equipment
Please click here to download a PDF of the IPMBA equipment list for the EMS Cyclist Course.  All equipment may be left on-site at Southeastern Emergency Equipment for the duration of the course.  While our buildings are secured and under video surveillance it is understood that Southeastern will incur no liability for loss of equipment due to fire, theft, or other circumstances beyond our control.

Requirements
Applicants should be EMS personnel currently assigned to bike units, EMS personnel applying to become members of a bike unit, or members of an agency considering use of the bicycle.

Certification
IPMBA Certification is available to EMS personnel who successfully complete the practical test, earn a score of 76% or better on the written test, become members of IPMBA, and submit applications for certification accompanied by the appropriate fee.  Personnel will also receive a course completion certificate from Southeastern Emergency Equipment - Emergency Medicine Training and Education Center.

Continuing Education Credit
This course is approved by a state accredited EMS Advanced Education Institution.  You will need to determine whether your specific agency will accept this course for CE toward re-credentialing.  All hours should count toward NREMT-P recertification.

Course Location and Registration
The course will be held at our Emergency Medicine Training and Education Center located at 5760 HWY 96 West in Youngsville, NC.  There are several hotels and restaurants in the Wake Forest/Youngsville area.  Specific lodging information will be provided in your confirmation package.
